The Chrysler Building
I've finally figured out how to get an image on this site! After figuring it out I went through a few and ended up on this picture of the Chrysler Building. Why you might ask? I work outdoors and love sharing the environment with everyone and there is nothing more unnatural than a skyscraper.
But I have always loved this building. Consistently ranked one of the top 10 architectural wonders of the world. It is a beautiful flower in the dullness that can be a big city sky line. It was once the tallest building in the world (first one to go over 1000' and 6 months later, the Empire State Building beat it). It was built at the end of the 20's - a period at the end of that free sentence of the decade of decadence.
Why build such a beautiful building? I think they were making a statement. They could have made an ugly skyscraper that is more efficient like the Twin Towers but they avoided that easy way.
We here all are avoiding the "easy way" and finding a way to rise with beauty out of the "slime" that can be our society. A beacon. A flower for others to marvel at and aspire to.
So that's why it's there. It may change but It is a beacon that lights my way and can lead me forward.
What's your beacon? What pulls you forward into YOUR future?

I think my beacon has always
I think my beacon has always been my heroes. People like Wangari Maathai, Julia Butterfly Hill, Frances Moore Lappe, Michael Franti, and so many others (most recently Alice Bunker Stockham!) are such an inspiration to me. I prefer the obscure heroes though...pop stars never did much for me
Love the new icon
Very phallic...in the best possible way.
Hmmmm
never thought of that!
