Greetings

Hello Everyone,

I'd like to introduce myself. I am David from Los Angeles and I am excited about reading so many of the fascinating posts by fellow members. I look forward to learning a lot and am grateful for any support that may be offered.

I will happily share my journey with anyone, but I figure combing past posts will save everyone from having to read the same question over and over again. Suffice it to say, I have been a masturbator and am eager to start the healing process.

Do me a favor and PM me with a username if "David" is your real name. If ever you want to send a friend to this site to read something, you're not gonna want your name here, even if it's a common name. smiley

Nice to have you here. Feel free to tell us your story. I'll enable you to blog, too.

Thank you Marnia. I responded to the e mail and will now focus on using this amazing forum.

As I am reading the posts, I am finding that my "story" is very similar to so many of us. I began masturbating as a young child and continually sought ever higher and higher levels of stimulation. Alas, I probably hit the proverbial "bottom" of the addicted masturbator: copulatory impotence. I can become fully erect for masturbation, but have difficulty erecting for normal vaginal sex.

I have tried many things to curb my addiction, but have actually discovered--for me--something that has been extremely effective; namely a male chastity tube. This comfortable tube locks around the penis and is the proverbial lock on the cookie jar. I don't mind wearing it, and when I do I simply do not masturbate. In fact, I am filled with sort of a low-grade euphoria that lasts the entire day. I actually prefer it to masturbating.

I am fascinated with the notion of rebooting time. I'd love to hear from others how long this period seems to be.

All my best,

David

about making some changes. Hopefully some of the guys here will tell you more about their experiences. Also see the wiki link at the very top right of the page. It has some group articles about the process.

Your experience is not that rare. As you'll see in Doidge's book http://www.reuniting.info/node/1808, the link between overstimulation (of the brain via too much intense orgasm) and performance problems is quite common. And given the widespread availability of free, extreme porn videos in the last five years, more and more men are noticing this effect. There's nothing wrong with you. Your ancestors' brains simply didn't evolve with all this supranormal stimulation, and they aren't equipped to handle it without becoming desensitized. Bummer.

It's reversible. But for best results, you really have to be willing to give up porn for good, as your brain will always be very sensitive to porn cues, and escalation is pretty much automatic.

The rebooting experience varies depending upon how consistent men are, so keep that in mind. Cold turkey is tough, but seems to put the agony behind you the swiftest. smiley On the other hand, some delays can be useful, as they bring to the fore deeper issues that need to be addressed sooner or later anyway. Trust the process.

Los Angeles has a great network of SLAA meetings that meet every night of the week if youre interested. They are helpful in relieving some of the isolation that comes with this addiction.

Good luck with your journey

I just read the SLAA questionnaire...scary.

Good luck with your journey David. I hope writing your experiences here will help you as much as it has helped me so far.

Looking forward to following your progress
