Using the Internet for Social Networking

I want to learn a lot more about social networking on the internet. I have accounts with MySpace, FaceBook and YouTube. I want to learn how to drive traffic to this site and how to create networking opportunities that start on this site (Forums and Blogs), move on to and from other sites such as the ones listed above and eventually to live in-person MeetUps. If any of you have real experience in this arena, please send me a Private Message.

I think that social networking works best in communities where you are already involved.

For example, I regularly use youtube. Now that Marnia has made her debut on youtube (http://www.reuniting.info/you_tube_video), I can more easily share her message wherever appropriate with other youtube users.

So, the question for everybody: which online communities are you part of?
Is there a way to share a link in an appropriate manner (i.e. in a way that is constructive to the debate in that community)?
