Is anybody using Instant Messaging?

Maybe we could add a profile section in your user account for you to make public relevant information (like you IM handle). If some of you don't want to make it public, you can pass on your handle by private message to anybody you want.

I have Vonage for my VOIP line and use an old fashioned regular telephone, because I'm hearing impaired and need to amplify the sound. Does anyone know if there are hearing aid compatible headsets with the ability to amplify sound?
Maybe someday I'll move into real 21st centry telephony.

As for IM; I have two accounts, one with Google Talk and one with Windows Live Messenger.

Oh, Janitor; I like the idea of of adding a functionality to this site so that people who want to can use these services to have chats.

Well, I was only speaking about adding a field in your profile, where member can provide this kind of information. Nothing more.

There must be a chat module, too. I am not sure it would be useful, though: the community is not yet very big and there are rarely more than 1 or 2 members online at a time to chat...

I guess Skype is ideal. We have other options though, among them Windows Live Call, but I'm not sure if they support conference-style simultaneous multiple user voice transfer.

Janitor, the implementation of that idea would make things convenient, although still you could just have a new thread with a list of everyone's IDs in it.

Could you tell me at what time this is going to be held (GMT)? That is going to be an issue for non-Americans like me.

Profile section update

Hello,

I just updated the profile section to allow interested parties to get in touch with each other.

Check out your user account > edit and see both the "Contact Information" tab and the "Personal" tab.

In the "Contact Information" section, I have tentatively created 3 fields:
1 to list the IM services you use,
1 to list the VoIP services you use,
1 to give the user ID needed to contact you.

I did it this way so that:
- it is easy to find out who uses which service (just click on the link that will appear on the user profile page).
- people can say which service they use, but NOT provide their ID. This way members have the choice to provide this information only to members they trust.

Please, update your profiles, check out the new functionality.
Let me know if you feel I should change anything. After you have tested things a bit, I'll make a separate announcement.
