How did I get here?
Exposed to Playboy as a teen I've been hooked for my adult life. An at least 2-3x week habit progressing to video for as much as 8 hours straight while home alone.

I thought it would be interesting to get in contact with other people who know about Buddhism, or would like to know more about it - or even teach me a couple of things.
Write about any aspect that interests you, and we'll take it from there.
Chime in, all you lamps in the dark!

Hi,
It's been a while since I last visited these forums, and so much has happened since I asked that oh-so-simple question "what is spirituality". That question started my journey into the mind.

This is a post I've thought about recently, but have been a little reluctant to write. For two reasons.
One, this isn't a site about religion, specifically Christianity. Yet, the topic does come up here and there, tonight in a post from Marina concerning one theory of history. (Which I would have a hard time swallowing, but that's another issue and not where I want to go here.)

For the past year, I've dedicated my energies towards creating a happier life and developing a set of core philosophical principles that will aide me in my early years of adulthood. One of my core beliefs was that to avoid boredom I needed to do things that weren't necessarily me. In other words I wanted to get uncomfortable and to experience new things. I lived in a different country for a year, flew kites, attempted to meet people at clubs and bars, dressed differently, changed my usual conversation topics, performed stand up comedy, and unsuccessfully tried to get into relationships.

Here is a link to extensive notes collected by a man in Finland.
If you have time and like history, you may enjoy reading about those who recommended this practice through history, including Muslims, early Christians and others. It begins with a lot of material about the Catholic Church's condemnation of Karezza.
