Score! Dopamine! Repeat! Or Not
Published on December 11, 2011 by Loretta Graziano Breuning, Ph.D. in Greaseless
Reaching a goal triggers dopamine. That feels great, but the spurt soon ends. Then you become who you were before the spurt. If you’re not comfortable with that, you can get caught up in endless efforts to stimulate more dopamine with more goal-seeking.

Note: Many activities release dopamine in healthy quantities, so this doesn't mean music is "like a drug," in the sense that it can create dependency. Yes, it causes a release of dopamine but so does everything else (opinion) that is rewarding or novel. Sex, drugs and rock and roll, I guess.
Music really is like a drug, researchers say

Like to Sleep Around? Blame Your Genes
By Stephanie Pappas, LiveScience Senior Writer
01 December 2010
Whether your roommate is Samantha Sleeps-Around or Paul the Prude, cut him or her some slack: People's predilections for promiscuity lie partially in their DNA, according to a new study.
A particular version of a dopamine receptor gene called DRD4 is linked to people's tendency toward both infidelity and uncommitted one-night stands, the researchers reported Nov. 30 in the online open-access journal PloS One.

Hi. I would like to add some thoughts about my experience on porn withdrawal. I`ve been staying away from porn for a good month now and some days are easier than others. When i find myself bored after work it`s really hard to abstain from porn. And in my deepest thoughts i`m actually telling myself that it will be even better to masturbate to porn if i am able to withdraw for a long time. At the same time i know this is wrong and i really don`t want to fool myself like this!

Mother rats who took really good care of their pups produced more oxytocin and showed more "reward" in their dopamine system. If oxytocin was blocked, dopamine reward didn't happen. Same thing might be going on with bonding behaviors between lovers. As oxytocin response gets stronger, so does dopamine reward.??
