That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification
and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know
not God.... (1 Thess 4:4-5 KJV)
We begin with an excerpt from the book The Descent of the Dove by Charles Williams (1939). The book is a short, very unique, history of Christianity. In this segment William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, Grand Rapids, Michigan: 10-14 he notes that the very earliest Christians seem to have had powers on a scale that their successors did not, and mentions in particular that they had a method of uniting the sexes with "heavenly daring."
Anyone who has ever wrestled successfully with redirecting sexual desire learns that there are at least two important spiritual elements (that is, elements apart from techniques that help us get around our neurochemical mating programs). Those elements are willingness and help from the Divine (also known as "grace"). This excerpt from C. S. Lewis' The Great Divorce is an inspiring portrayal of the gains from willingness and Divine assistance.
Thelema Press has finally released its long-promised documentary on the Mystery inherent in sacred sexuality. Clips from video available here on YOU Tube: Clip 1 Clip 2
This paper (pdf file) looks at love and lust from four different angles that have influenced our modern thinking: Old Testament, New Testament, Classical Greek thought and Gnostic Christian literature.
One will put on the light in mystery in the union. If the woman had not separated from the man, she would not die with the man. His separation became the beginning of death. Because of this Christ came, in order that he might remove the separation which was from the beginning, and again unite the two; and that he might give life to those who died in the separation, and unite them. But the woman is united to her husband in the bridal chamber. But those who have united in the bridal chamber will no longer be separated. Because of this Eve separated from Adam, because she was not united with him in the bridal chamber.
