Beyond Nature vs. Nurture

Beyond Nature vs. Nurture

Researchers studying differences in how individuals respond to stress are finding that genes are malleable and environments can be deterministic.

A journalist once asked the behavioral psychologist Donald Hebb whether a person’s genes or environment mattered most to the development of personality. Hebb replied that the question was akin to asking which feature of a rectangle—length or width—made the most important contribution to its area.

Back on the wagon, day 10 or 11,

I've semi consistently have gone 2-3 weeks at a time without PMO for a while, maybe 6 or 7 months. One time last year I went 90+ days. Every time I masturbate, I end up binging, usually 4-6 times in a 48-72 hour period. Then I get back on the wagon. I want to break this cycle.

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I last masturbated. I've only had one tough day that followed a dream where I was looking at porn that I thought I had erased. The glimpse of porn made me really horny in my dream but I couldn't masturbate in time before the scene changed. In reality, I did erase the porn! Anyway, I got through that day and it's been fairly smooth sailing so far.

Yann Arthus-Bertrand strikes again: "6 billion Others"

Community topics:

I won't say much: the video below speaks for itself, if you can get past the heavy French accent (not much worse than my own!)

I was deeply moved by the "6 billion others" video montage. Very nicely done. There is so much wisdom in this world... but apparently in the wrong places.

I'm sure Marnia will forgive me this slight breach of netiquette. This blog entry is off topic (if environmental rape is off topic) but I couldn't resist sharing the news with you.

TODAY is the big day I've been anxiously waiting for the last few weeks. Today is the day Yann Arthus-Bertrand releases his movie Home worldwide and for free.

This exceptional documentary is exclusively made off breathtaking aerial shots of our beautiful planet which, sadly, has been raped by human greed and short-sightedness.

Home has just been released a few hours ago simultaneously on the internet and in 50 countries world-wide: the 90 minute version of the movie will be broadcast today on the 5th of June in television channels across the world. You can also watch it online (link below). The long version (120 minutes) is being released at the same time in theatres all over the planet.

The documentary is released in English, French, Spanish, German, Russian...

Be among the very first to watch it:

Let your friends, family and colleagues know. Email everybody you know. Copy and paste this into a new email and send it now.

Let this be a worldwide event where we, together, take conscience (because we still need to!) of the fact that we cannot live without our Home. Without our planet to sustain us, we simply cannot survive.

And maybe this is not so much off topic for this site after all. The environmental rape of our planet has certainly been exacerbated by our unbalanced sexual practices. I cannot fathom a civilization practising Karezza being so careless in the management of our planet's resources we so much depend on...

Watch it now! Share it now! It's free. And it's a message we still need to hear.
