Awareness

Hi Rak,

The thing I found most helpful in moving fully away from porn was to see what emotion was driving it in me rather than to try to stop (or even judge) my behaviour. I found that I tended to be attracted to porn when I was afraid. I was afraid to be fully in my energy and fully comfortable with my maleness. Once I recognized that pattern, my attraction to it lessened because I became curious about what I was so frightened of. That led me to start to explore ways of being that didn't involve succumbing to the fear.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

"Arnold"

Thanks Arnold

Every negative emotions such as fear, anxiousness, depression, stress, sadness, negative thoughts etc can lead us to watch porn because porn in a way calm us down. It's just like how people smoke when they are in stress or in anxiety because it calms their mind down. So I guess the best way is to stay away from these emotions which can be done by practicing meditation, working out, taking walks etc. This battle is life long because we will be always susceptible to porn whenever these negative emotions strike us.
Listening to OSHO's talk always helps me to calm myself down. Listening to him is like going in deep meditation.

Understanding

You are most welcome, Rak.

I found myself actually becoming curious about these negative emotions. I was completely unaware of how they were driving me. I found it fascinating at how the thing I feared most was being fully alive and vital. It seemed almost insane to me. I still struggle with that dynamic in very subtle ways, but have left porn far behind me. It had strong parallels with a famous quote I read from Marianne Williamson:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Osho's talks certainly have been very helpful to me too. He's been my hero for a long time. My challenge has been to accept the possibility that perhaps ... maybe ... there is an enlightened being in me too!

All the best in your meditations.

Sincerely,

"Arnold"
