Pathetic, indeed

Yes, I agree; as a debate, it was poor. In fact, it was awful. But it's recent, took itself seriously, had audience participation, and maybe reflects some sort of concensus view of the necessary normalisation of pornography.

I have no idea how the audience was chosen, but I felt they could have been swayed much more than they were had the addiction angle been properly covered. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

I only watched to the end because I like Germaine's Greer's forthright, off the cuff manner of engagement, no matter what she says. Sadly, the bloke got lost in telling his own life story, and the two supporters of the motion, despite seeming rather creepy, carried the day.

I also have no idea how much debates like this are watched or whether they are in the slightest way influential.
