Your Church on Porn, Update

I promised everyone here that I would keep you updated about the class at my church that I have become involved in. We began a YBOP based lesson series several weeks ago. We started off talking about the biological aspects of porn (dopamine, limbic system, yadda yadda yadda). After the lesson, we would have a support group type round table where the kids would open up and tell about whatever porn struggles they might be having.

During the second or third class session, right when I started off on the material, I noticed that the kids eyes just kinda glazed over. They became inattentive and distant. It was clear that they were having a crappy time. So, I cut it off. I told them that we would stop with the biological bull crap and just stick to the support group style talks. That's what we've been doing.

Honestly, it's been amazing. These kids open up about what's going on at school as far as porn goes. They open up about friends that try to get them to watch porn, they open up about their own struggles.

There's one young man in particular who really opens up. He has made it clear that he struggles with porn. I told them about K9 and he installed it. I have not been to the class in a couple of weeks (ill be back this week), but the last time I was there, he was clearly, by the stuff he said, showing some really encouraging signs of breaking out of his addiction.

It's been really great for me too. Though my addiction is all but dead, every time I think I might want to look at porn, I remember that I have to answer to those kids. I just can't let them down.

So, the class is a success. It's not what I thought it would be. It's morphed into it's own little thing. I think it's amazing.

Excellent

A good teacher motivates his students, however he has to do it. You'll find a way to work in key bits of science, if they are needed.

Really glad to hear about your good work.
