I think it's the thought of the person you are texting to...or sending a message to. Maybe someone smarter than I can look at the original study...

It's called 'staying in touch' for a reason, I think!

We produce oxytocin connecting with real loved ones while talking in the same room, having dinner together, talking on the phone, and writing heart-felt letters & greeting cards that we send off through the mail, so I wouldn't expect texting and tweeting with our friends (local or distant) to be any different.
